hill climb 09 13

Weather in the Gunstock area cooperated for a short while last Wednesday. Although it had rained overnight, causing for some slippery footing climbing up the mountain alongside the track, the conditions were much better for the racers this year then had been in years past.

Hill Climbers from all over New England competed in classes split up by type of vehicle, engine size, age of rider, and type of tire. Dirt bikes, snowmobiles, quads and even a dune buggy powered by a snowmobile engine all raced. Top ETs were in the high 9s with most riders navigating over 3 whoopdies and over the top of the hill in 11 to 12 seconds. Several girls mixed it up in the same classes as the fellas and held their own.

A new class of bikes and sleds using paddle tires was also included this year, giving those spectators close by something to floss about. Several bikes carried too much power off the line and/or through the burms and ended up crashing, however, no major injuries were incurred that I am aware of.

A must after a day off watching hill climbs is a trip into Weirs Beach to see all the street production bikes. More on that in a later post.
